Coffee and Cigarettes (2003) directed by Jim Jarmusch
Eleven beautiful vignettes assembled to deliver a theme regarding life and characters around coffee and cigarettes. If you know me, then you should know how much I would enjoy this film, and I sure did. IT WAS PERFECT. I would watch it over and over again. In fact, I'm seriously considering going out and getting a copy of it. It's all shot in black and white though the movie's not actually that old.. 2003 release ! In the special features section, there is a music video-ish clip of only the tabletop shots in the movie.. SO ENJOYABLE !!!!! DEFINITELY CHECK IT OUT-
But ultimately, this movie is about short scenes where all sorts of artists come together to ACT. To really, truly act. It's like watching a theater play through film. It's not really like a "movie." Amazing. Brought me back to the nostalgic days of when I used to do some pinner high school drama things.. Hehe. They all use their own names in the movie and by the end, I believe that you can really develop more of a love towards everyone who had participated in this lovely project. Oh, you may also get to love Tesla, the inventor. ;) Inside joke to people who have watched the flick, hehe.

The best part of the movie is that if you drink coffee to the moment you fall asleep, you dream faster. YES. YES. YES. I'M GOING TO TEST IT OUT THIS MOMENT. IT'S 11:20PM RIGHT NOW. LET'S SEE IF I DO DREAM FASTER.

Finance done. It gave me an upset stomach, a headache, sleepiness, and bad taste buds. I just want to crash, but I cannot. For I've two more finals tomorrow. Then three more to go after......... Death, ain't it ?
So to survive these few brutal days and to put me into a bit of a downer is the band, Girls. Out from SF, California, Girls debuted back in 2007 but caught most of the attention in 2009 with their first record, Album. I found them via Pitchfork way back when they were showcased on a rooftop for PitchforkTV. They sounded VERY ELVIS COSTELLO and super naive.. Maybe that's why I was never GUNG HO GIRLS !!! YEAH !!!!!
But this naivete is their key point now and I've grown to like it. Past November, 2010, they released an EP, Broken Dreams Club. The six songs on it epitomizes broken dreams and you can feel the brutal honesty. I think its climax point is their track, Substance. I've posted the lyrics below; it's pretty easy to figure out what Chris is talking about. It is beautifully sad, hazy and vain, and pointlessly hopeless. And I go back and forth and back and forth trying to figure out the paths in my life and trying to get closer to Him.
PS. Try finding them on Google. Googling "girls" is hard enough but "girls band" doesn't work and "girls California" doesn't work.. Not even "girls Chet" doesn't work !! Chet as in Chet the vice-captain of the band. Instead Google gives you the search of "girls chest" and yeah, I don't mind titties, but I don't swing that way, okay ? So yeah. It's been a journey-

Now these (not too studly looking, but still who cares !? They make fucking AWESOME music) guys have been around for awhile now !! From Sweden, this indie rock band formed back in '99 but really caught the wave in 2006 with Young Folks ! I was a little child in tenth grade whistlin' away at this song thinking I was super cool. Yeah. Well that's the past. And they have grown into so much more. And I had forgotten about them ever since I lost their music during my painful hard drive crash in the past........ but finding them again was SUCH A BLESSING. They saved me from the depressing, Korean indie music I was listening to.. and the countless Elliott Smith. Still, PB&J's lyrics... Well, they ain't the healthiest kind either. Pretty catchy and real, and lots of wishing involved. I should just listen to Mozart and Bach and what not... and grab stunning A's in my final exams.. 쩝-
