Okay THE LAST Korean indie band to blog this post. I promise, ahhahaha. 옥상달빛 (Moonlight on the Roof) singing 스물다섯 (Twenty-five). These ladies are fairly new, I think. Well I just discovered them and they only have one album out (the cover's SICK btw, it's a simple one featuring a dinosaur head !!!!). Quite impressive for this SUPER indie sounding band of two women. I love their faint little voices and small eyes peering from those frames. Hehe. They talk about how they've turned 25 and is now of real age where they gotta be independent adults. INSERT LONG AND HEAVING SIGH HERE. I'VE NO CLUE WHAT I'LL BE LIKE WHEN I'M 25. GAWWWD. I don't even want to think about it yet... Better enjoy my last month and half of still being a teenager.. 19-year-olds FTW !!

In English, they are known as Seoul Electronic Band.

I found out about them today. I browse through too much music these days; so many hours spent listening to happy music, awful music, crappy shit, just pure junk and sometimes, treasure finds !!!! I've been making more playlists than the amount of times I go poo !! ..I know that sounded disgusting, right !? But it's a serious problem right now; I've been praying for a better errr.. bowel (!?!?!) system lately.

ANYWAYS !! MOVING ON !! Seoul Electronic Band is made up of three members, led by 신윤철 (Shin Yoon-chul). They got together in 2004 and since then have completed two full albums. 2010 has been an exceptional year for them, winning many awards from Korea Music Awards !



I like them because I feel that they have flair. There are many many many Korean indie bands that I dig and listen to, but a handful of them have no character. Meaning that they all seem to sound the same and make music under a certain type of Korean indie bands. However, this band at first seems to make similar music, but then something about the songs give them edge. Seoul Electronic Band's songs has a bit more soul than usual, has cheerful lyrics for once, and they take time building the climax into the songs. I've grown to appreciate the latter aspect. Before, I had no patience and if the song wasn't exciting by the first 23 seconds, I'd kill it with bitterness.

I like this guy's new album 201. It's deep and messed. It's got lots of other good songs. I thought I liked Le Fou Muet.. but today, all I've been playing is this one, Tangled. So why not just embed the tangled one. It's got swell lyrics. If you can read Korean, look down. It goes well with the weather in Vancouver today, all rainy and sad. Reality hits. Hits hard. Ouch.

A folk-y beginning with a twist in the middle and a scratchy voice painfully stroking your ear drum. This indeed is a beautiful Korean indie masterpiece. Complete with an easy black & white music video. Pleasant listening.

So ladies and gents. I have somewhat successfully completed my first year of university without much dips.. well at least. The dreadful marks will unveil themselves on the 2nd of May. Until then, I shall leave my sanity in a sacred box under my desk and play to my heart's content. Har har.

Since I'm going out to hang out with Koreans today, I'd like to make this a long delayed Korean post. First let's start of with long time ago Karlie Kloss from W Korea, and then the uber cool editorial Abbey Lee did for Vogue Korea (this is my first editorial from anything Korea that I like). I'm also not caught up with new editorials or what not, so there might be some better Korean mag's editorials out there that I've not seen. STAY TUNED !! I'LL EDUCATE MYSELF SOON !! AHHAHA. PS. Abbey's such a natural; I love her to DEATH. GUGHGhghgjhgl.






Been getting tons of Korean music ! Including this funky new band that my friend introduced me to ! Their name is EE !! SO CUTE !! Apparently they are getting married this year; I think that they are perfect for each other. Another point to note would be that this woman is sort of psycho and she was sued for assaulting a concert-goer or sth like that !!??! So she's like a Korean Courtney Love. HOW EXCITING !! BAHHaa



Another band is my ultra favourite, Hot Potato. I posted Confession few posts ago, and this is the follow-up. Part two. This song's name is See-Saw. It's really sad. Because here, you find out that the guy is actually married and has kids.. and then the girl is in the hospital and she ends up dying. It's sort of a typical sappy music video story that Koreans like to use. But the atmosphere achieved through this short film is totally different, and it has a quirky sense of humour. When he fed her an apple, the girl says "Ohhh, so apples were delicious"
Man: "You sound like you never ate apples"
Girl: "Yeah, I didn't eat apples much"
Man: "Really? Apples are my favorite"
Girl: "...heh heh...I'm allergic to apples."

The QUEEN of KPop is back !! With a full new album, H-Logic, which is actually bringing her LOADS of lawsuits !! SEVEN SONGS WERE SUED FOR PLAGIARISM. And when I went and compared them.. wow. I was quite surprised how BLATANTLY similar they are !! DLAKG;AIDFJKLADHGADF. Shame on Hyo-ri's part imo. However, call this the Korean Lady GAGA or another one of GAGA's copycat, but it's still awesome and I can't get more of it. This song was not sued for plagiarism, but it still sounds like everything we've already heard anyhow. WATCH HER STRUT HER HOTNESS + CONFIDENCE TO THE MAX.

If that wasn't enough Korean overload.. Don't fret. There's more ! I recently started following Korean artists on Twitter. Some of them are actually from abroad, so they speak English well and tweets in English, too. It's nice. It's actually quite interesting to see what they talk about. Sometimes it's about Korea's current events and all that. But this is my favourite Korean celebrity's twitter page. I thought I was going to have a heartattack.. becauseeeee...

I'm basically OBSESSED by this song. It's by Korean indie band, Hot Potato, the leading singer being KimC (김C) who is basically one of my favourite men in the world. Please intake insurmountable cuteness and love in this video and also KimC's beautiful voice that makes my heart falter its beats.
I hear from Twitter that this band is having a free show at Insadong, Seoul, Korea tomorrow afternoon. If only I wasn't across the Pacific Ocean.. I'd be there supporting them on with all my heart.
