IF ONLY HUMANS CAN SLEEP WHEN THEY ARE AWAKE

THEN THERE WOULD BE NO MEANING TO SLEEPING AT ALL.
ACTUALLY SLEEPING WOULD BE ELIMINATED.
AND ALL 24 HOURS OF THE DAYS WOULD BE SPENT WITH OUR EYES ALL OPEN.
THEN EIGHT HOURS WORK DAYS WOULD NO LONGER EXIST.
BUT STILL.
THE WANT.
THE CRAVE.
FOR SLEEP WOULD DISAPPEAR.

[May 2011 - Bianca's birthday]
Bianca goes from classy good girl with a beautiful library in the background to pouring beer at Coppertank on Broadway. AWH YEAH.

[May 2011 - Jethro's + Simply French]
It's a delicious wannabe east side diner on Dunbar for brunch and a wannabe everything French/vintage/classy cafe on 10th Avenue with pretty bad coffee and macaroons. However, both places were thoroughly enjoyed due to good company. It's always who you're with, not where you're at. Make life better; it's on you !

Jethro's serving size is WOW-able and its price very reasonable. Simply French has beautiful decor, but that's about it. OH ! It's not very crowded, even with furniture... Lots of fresh oxygen and real breathing space.

[May 2011 - Dinesty with the Lachman's minus Billy]
We go to Dinesty in Richmond to grab some Chinese nomnoms together. On the way, my Korean genes kick in and I camwhore. I'm wearing a royal blue dress that I've only worn once and a super sophisticated (well I think it's sophisticated.....) trench. I LOVE the trench. Maybe this fall, I'll wear more of it. SAMANTHA !!!!!!! My older Lachman friend is coming back in less than like 4 or 5 days, FINALLY, so I'm super excited. More Chinese food ! More wine ! More fun ! More love !!!

PS. Loving the serious talk pics of Sam + Nicole. Very nice. Indeed.

[May 2011 - Acumen Fund]
Now that I reflect upon the weather in May, it was wild. May was basically November. Why am I wearing all these winter clothes everywhere !??!!!? For example, this Benetton wool sweater...................... UHH. But check out Acumen Fund, a totally world-changing - literally - firm that focuses on ending poverty by lending money to poorer entrepreneurs around the world with a very low interest rate. I feel like that previous sentence that I wrote kind of killed Acumen Fund's appeal. YOU GOTTA CHECK THEM OUT AND READ ALL ABOUT THEM. OKAY ?!!!?!?! Just promise me.

So yeah. Artsy fartsy photography silent auction event hosted by Acumen Fund in Vancouver on Hastings. I had fun sweating in my palms (nervousness) and also crying (I had no money to bid on pretty photography). But I learned ! I learned that those balloon-like, Asian-like ceiling ornaments are a space-changer. High ceiling space but want a cozier environment ? Those are your answer. ;) ;)

Cute or Just No ?

So I'm just casually clicking links from one Japanese boutique's site to another.. and from the boutique people's blogs to another..... lalallalala. Casually. I mean, I don't even understand Japanese.. and I came across this mind-blowing boutique called SPANK. Like where are these people from !? Yes, Tokyo. But what about their brainwaves !??!!!?!??! SO EXTREMEEEE. I love. You can tell. So then I came across these images of little sundresses:

So those designs are obviously sold exclusively at SPANK, the boutique, and are from Maga's blog. These are really interesting to me, because I have all the Barbie fabric they used at home... why and how !? They are my favourite Barbie BED SHEETS !!!!!!! I'M NOT JOKING. So one day, if you know how to work the sewing machine, give me a ring ! We can tear apart my Barbie bedsheets and make 'em into splendid mini dresses. Let's just pair them with like everything else PASTEL and look... good ? I'm half fascinated and half vomiting here. HAHA. But gotta give credits to ppl living true to their colours !! :) :) :)

SPANK's official website
SPANK's Maga's blog (where the dresses are from)
SPANK's (owner, I think) Tavuchi's blog - Visit this to just get a better idea of Spank's style + culture !!

Talking about SPANK this whole time totally reminded me of that Flash game from WAY BACK WHEN... SPANK THE MONKEY !!!!! Have you guys ever played it !??! I used to love it... Addictinggames was the best- I'll link you, actually. We can drown in nostalgia, hehehehehe.

We just got our fall collection in ! I know... It's SO typical that I'd be ALL over Alexander Wang, but I can't help my emotions, you know !? Hahahaha. He creates clothes that's the ultimate casual-chic, luxury-ruined, affordable (somewhat), and continuously shaping our young adult fashion culture. Not only that, he's hot and has impeccable style outside the fashion world. What do I mean by that ? Few months ago, his new apartment was featured in W Magazine with couple of exclusive shots of him + his furniture. UGH, TO DIE FOR. Do you see that zebra hide !? DO YOU DO YOU !??! Do you see the fox fur cushions !???!!!?!?!? I like his colour palette (since I only like black, white, and red - three's always a charming number).

Alex's first flagship opening earlier this summer at NYC - 103 Grand Street. It's really worth your time to watch his infamous Making of 103 Grand Street vid !! I love how focused he sounds with his visions and what not in videos. So candid !!!!! Regarding the pics below, the small fashionable child is Alex's niece (she's like in head to toe Chanel + Alexander Wang) aaaaand the other is one of Alex signing the bag that the girl bought at the opening. SOOOOOO JEALOUS, note the diction, jealous and not envious dag;idhiaofm !

songs of the day

This morning while nomming on brunch, I took out my laptop to play some tunes. And WOW. I was so sick and tired of all of my - supposedly - favourite songs that I went berserk trying to find some new music to listen to. I always have a folder of music that stashed away labelled, "LISTEN TO THIS NOW," meaning that they haven't been listened to, but have been downloaded. So I went there and found The Radio Dept.'s Passive Aggressive: Singles 2002-2010 Disc 1 & 2.

WHAT. A. BEAUTY.

All day long, I was at home trying to catch up with whatever I missed on the internet and doing tedious email, research, and tutor preps. Plus course works + time table planning... The Radio Dept. was there with me. Encouraging me on- :')

I'm totally in love. You should be, too.

And for kicks, this isn't RADIO Dept. but RADIOhead:

OH BTW, PS. PS. PS.

SWASH bucklin'

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Recently going over a few files, I came across Swash's spring summer 2010 lookbook. Swash is a small thing not really well known over here in North America. Based in London, it is a fashion partnership between Sarah Swash and Toshio Yamanaka who both studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Every collection that they come out with is a brilliant mix of patterns and prints and quite heavily Japanese-inspired, though it pulls off the total British vibe. That's what makes Swash breathtaking, in my opinion anyways.

Yamanaka had also completed various courses in technical fashion design and trained as a pattern cutter at Kingston University and the London College of Fashion. His technicality totally shows through and maybe this is why they can also construct successful menswear accessories. I personally love their BIG bags that seem to be so big that you can probs fit your whole life in it. Hehe.

Swash grew in Japan then won lots of awards in Europe. What we want is for them to branch out into North America, and for that to happen... North Americans should start opening up to a stronger silhouette, funkier architecture, and anything goes prints. Let's have more fun with our clothes, shall we ?

Swash's scarf designs Spring Summer 2011
All about animals, dogs, zebras, slinkys, giraffes, basically anything goes. Not just the animal prints, but also the animal HEADS. These are scarf designs, but they design beautiful clothes that include turbans, wide-legged jumpsuits, maxis, draperies, leggings, and even to simple tees. Such an eclectic mix of character and vitality !!! LOVE !!!!!!
