I recently joined a Korean-Canadian film crew, Visually Unboxed, over the summer and then decided to create huge goals for it... And now we are proud to say that we are working on a three year plan with the first step being a registered start up next summer. To prep for it, we found ourselves a client, a Korean start up called Hello!Geeks and started working with them to create an Indiegogo campaign video and content guidance.
First news is that Indiegogo--or any crowdfunding campaigns--just do not happen by putting up some content and clicking submit. Who knew that it takes so much work and digestion of channel-specific analysis? Indiegogo is different from Kickstarter. They work with a different algorithm called the GOGOFACTOR.
Today, I'm just going to outline our key findings from our "a look into Indiegogo" report we made for our friends in Korea. ** Originally written in Korean, translated for my blog.
And here is where I will leave you guys. I did dissect each step-by-step process of pre-during-post Indiegogo campaign, but this blog post is a teaser.

Knowledge is money, wisdom is reward. Feeling humbled these days with the time I have and don't have as a small fish (more like algae? plankton?) in a big pond.
It accumulated a ton of curiosity as its sole purpose is to send yo's to friends. What does that even mean? It means I tap on your name on the screen and it sends a push notification saying that I just yo'd you. Sometimes (and I still haven't figured out why it's only sometimes) the phone says "yo" out loud in this mechanical manly tone, "yo~" Listening to it "yo" is EXTREMELY satisfying and instantaneously makes your day 400 times better.
The problem with Yo (as an app) right now is its decline in popularity. Just like how it had shot to the top of the app store, now it is just another app floating in the appsphere. There are talks about how Yo is a revolutionary app opening the doors into a new level of push notification strategies... but isn't this taking everything a little too far? Isn't this the model example of the North American way of flourishing everything with words for depth? Though we all know what is shallow and what is not, we are all prone to influences. When embellishments are smartly stated, they have the power to disorient the audience into believing in them. In all optimism and fast-paced world of technology, let's see how Yo turns itself around. On a side note, there's apparently this new social networking portal opening that is going to be strictly emoji-only. 2) Found a new male model that I'm obsessed with, but of course not as much as Yuri Pleskun. He is the LORD of male models, I tell ya. Well anyways, this new one's name is ADRIEN SAHORES. Relatively new to the industry having walked two seasons now. HE IS HOT and talented !!
3) I'll be starting to help out with some articles for String Magazine ! Vancouver's online culture magazine. I'm thrilled to be undertaking this project but pretty nervous as well. Hopefully it'd go well all according to the plan..... Haha, I better start collecting those karma points !! EEK !

Only in Nippon. Last week, I was out Downtown, roaming the vintage stores with Tiff, a great girl, when I was approached my two Japanese guys asking me if I was Japanese in Japanese. Again, out of JAPN 150 habit, I replied "No, I'm Korean" in Japanese. We laughed. As if I can speak any more Japanese than that. I want to live there. I need to go there. Buy me a kotatsu ?
Never Let Me Go written by Kazuo Ishiguro I give 100 billion thanks to my friend for lending me this book ! Today, I finally finished it and am delighted how different yet similar the book and the movie were.
The movie was definitely more haunting with its visuals and sounds (including the many silent scenes of landscapes). However the characters could be perceived totally differently with the book. Whereas in the movie, I thought that Kathy H. was always in the right and Ruth in the wrong, it was totally the opposite in the novel. I now have this connection and pity with Ruth while I seem to detest Kathy's deliberate actions. Oh, she's the worst. She seems to be the weak, kind-hearted girl, but OH DON'T BE FOOLED. She's so sneaky and deliberate in the most "peaceful" ways.

Oh, and a little bit of interesting news regarding the US. There's the huge site that's been launched for the gay military workers: OUT MILITARY. Well, now that Obama has worked out the Don't Ask; Don't Tell, I guess they are going full out and open. Still, it's still a shocker how fast the world moves these days. (Obviously I found this out through Twitter; sadly, I don't read the paper and Twitter is the perfect alternative. Hehe !)

서울전자음악단 In English, they are known as Seoul Electronic Band.
I found out about them today. I browse through too much music these days; so many hours spent listening to happy music, awful music, crappy shit, just pure junk and sometimes, treasure finds !!!! I've been making more playlists than the amount of times I go poo !! ..I know that sounded disgusting, right !? But it's a serious problem right now; I've been praying for a better errr.. bowel (!?!?!) system lately.
ANYWAYS !! MOVING ON !! Seoul Electronic Band is made up of three members, led by 신윤철 (Shin Yoon-chul). They got together in 2004 and since then have completed two full albums. 2010 has been an exceptional year for them, winning many awards from Korea Music Awards !
I like them because I feel that they have flair. There are many many many Korean indie bands that I dig and listen to, but a handful of them have no character. Meaning that they all seem to sound the same and make music under a certain type of Korean indie bands. However, this band at first seems to make similar music, but then something about the songs give them edge. Seoul Electronic Band's songs has a bit more soul than usual, has cheerful lyrics for once, and they take time building the climax into the songs. I've grown to appreciate the latter aspect. Before, I had no patience and if the song wasn't exciting by the first 23 seconds, I'd kill it with bitterness.
This past summer has been a handful of blockbusters as usual. But the following two extremely successful movies had truly different marketing approaches. Despicable Me and Inception both swept the box office during their opening week, respectfully, $56 million USD and $63 million USD. The two opened within a week of each other, Inception opening a week later on around 300 more screens. However the hype each had before the opening was TOTALLY DIFFERENT !!
Despicable Me had launched SIX TRAILERS !! And had started with shorter trailers even more than a year before the opening week !!!!! The kids were reciting the key dialogues from the trailers WAYYYY before the movie had even opened !! On the other hand, Inception had only launched ONE trailer very near the opening date. There was no interactive movie website nor a lot of posters.. In fact, it was a pure genius work of WORD OF MOUTH marketing !!!! With its full cast including the Leo Di Caprio and a whopping trailer showcasing the hotness, ahem, of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the serious money involved with director, Christopher Nolan.

Meet LOCAL NATIVES from Los Angeles. Their sound is straight from LA and nowhere else. I was introduced to them through my good friend, Sam. She casually and somewhat forcefully opened my eyes to music back in the day, and she dutifully still keeps that task up !! LOVE YOU !! But my beloved Sam aside, really. Get a taste of them. They are so good that even their awful band name is growing on me. Hope this band sparks something inside and that you can loosen a few screws inside your brain and start doing junk that you'd regret later on. Keep dreaming.
