Pretty hot right now. It reminds me of DRIVE (RYAN GOSLING !!! SWOON !!!!) OST. Which is why I'm even more obsessed. So good.

Seeing that he has released an official M/V for it already. Berlin has done him well, eh ? K-indie goes minimal....

Living's a beauty yet for me, humid death is coveted-
Breathless, "I don't know if I'm unhappy cuz I'm not free or because I'm not free, I'm unhappy." This flick's so sexy, so scrumptious + so sad that I cry cry cry. French is a film language and Godard is a masterpiece himself. "Two things are important in life: for men, women; for women, money."
Walkabout, I watched this movie basically twice back to back. I just HAD to watch it again with commentary on. It was such a special film with grand ideas poised in smaller things. Definitely recommended to only those who can sit through lots of silent, background music filled scenes with not too much action or dialogue. It teaches us, as participants of the modern society, what true pureness and innocence that can only be found outside our everyday lives are. Beautiful cinematography + original sound track. Casting's spectacular.
Transformers 3, I'm such a sucker for blockbuster's. I just can't wait til I watch Cowboys + Aliens. Hehehehehehehe. Cried a lot during this third installment of the series... Rosie Huntington-Whitely over Megan Fox ANY DAY. Shia will always have my respect. He's carrying Hollywood on his perfect shoulders. I wonder what kinds of films he's going to do in the near future...
Horrible Bosses, talk about a good comedy gone bad when it lasted for TWO hours. Horrible aftertaste. It still had its funny moments and I would say that this is Jennifer Aniston's ONLY decent movie that she has ever made. She was in a total of 20 minutes... Maybe that's an exaggeration and she was in about 28 minutes of the movie...... Yup, not a fan.
Midnight in Paris, Classic Woody Allen with wonderful acting. This one is on my BUY ON DVD/BLURAY list. FOR SURE. I would watch it over and over again since a) deals with my favourite time in history, the 20s b) has Fitzgerald as like one of the main 20s characters, c) Adrien frickin' Brody, yo !!!!! Okay, yeah. This movie's near perfect.
The Trip, I really need to watch this movie ASAP. Excited to see Steve Coogan act again !! :D
Korean TV survival show- That phrase sounds lame. But this show is not lame. Like all Korean things, it is obviously OVER-DRAMATIC and its purpose is to MAKE EVERYONE CRY and leave the audience an unforgettable IMPRESSION. So at first, I was just like MEH. And then it started getting reaaaaaally good and I started getting as obsessed with it every Sunday afternoon, just like my father.
It's called 나는 가수다 (I Am a Singer). The 7 singers that are battling each other are all legendary in Korea; they are the top of the top in all different genres. At the end of three weeks that include two live performances, the singer with the lowest amount of votes is sadly eliminated. That may sound somewhat rude to have a reality show with these top singers, but in fact, this show makes them even better. They feed off each other, the energy, and the chances given to them to break through walls they didn't even know that existed. For me, this is truly inspiring, but just really entertaining. HAHA. It kind of makes me feel pathetic though.. it's like WTF am I doing....... ? Heh. Heh heh.
This morning while nomming on brunch, I took out my laptop to play some tunes. And WOW. I was so sick and tired of all of my - supposedly - favourite songs that I went berserk trying to find some new music to listen to. I always have a folder of music that stashed away labelled, "LISTEN TO THIS NOW," meaning that they haven't been listened to, but have been downloaded. British band, Yuck has taken over me with these following three songs. My favourite is the last one, the third. So to survive these few brutal days and to put me into a bit of a downer is the band, Girls. Out from SF, California, Girls debuted back in 2007 but caught most of the attention in 2009 with their first record, Album. I found them via Pitchfork way back when they were showcased on a rooftop for PitchforkTV. They sounded VERY ELVIS COSTELLO and super naive.. Maybe that's why I was never GUNG HO GIRLS !!! YEAH !!!!!
But this naivete is their key point now and I've grown to like it. Past November, 2010, they released an EP, Broken Dreams Club. The six songs on it epitomizes broken dreams and you can feel the brutal honesty. I think its climax point is their track, Substance. I've posted the lyrics below; it's pretty easy to figure out what Chris is talking about. It is beautifully sad, hazy and vain, and pointlessly hopeless. And I go back and forth and back and forth trying to figure out the paths in my life and trying to get closer to Him.
PS. Try finding them on Google. Googling "girls" is hard enough but "girls band" doesn't work and "girls California" doesn't work.. Not even "girls Chet" doesn't work !! Situated in the Best Dojun [베도] page of Naver, Holy Mountain 홀리마운틴 by Abikyuhwan is the reason I got into checking out Best Dojun webtoons. In case you don't know what best dojun means.. These webtoons aren't the picked, paid, and official webtoons that Naver sponsors; these are unpaid and are products of attempts to get on board the official webtoon list. Anyone can upload on the Dojun site, and the best rated ones get promoted to Best Dojun. Pretty simple.
Holy Mountain, 홀마 for short, is a story about a girl and her affiliations with the concert hall, Holy Mountain. Deals with variety of parts of life: school, Korea's idol culture, developments in the smaller areas of the cities, gangsters, and friendship. I love how it touches upon very unusual occupations and that it has viewpoints from adult characters as well as a middle schooler (the protagonist). But the whole thing has a musical background and I can proudly say that this guy has a FANTASTIC MUSIC taste ! His first episode features GIRLS !!!! I've never heard of a Korean - living in Korea - that knew about Girls when they debuted !!! TOO COOL.
홀마 also has a huge design element. This author is not only just a mangaka, but more of an artist. The way he incorporates music into each piece, he also makes sure that there are a variety of cuts and different angles. His play on text is especially interesting and his unique darker pop-art style is definitely something to note.
So I got really interested in what kind of a human Abikyuhwan was. You like 'em ? Then you are hooked. This is a band you don't forget about very easily. You will come back looking for them. Bo Ningen likes to SCREAM. And JAM. And CHANT in variety of languages.
For some reason, they remind me a lot of Deerhoof and Satomi from Deerhoof ! Because the music is fast and non-sensical; especially the lyrics. I never understand what Satomi is saying except when she's getting formally interviewed. THIS IS JUST THE CASE FOR BO NINGEN !!!!!!
It's too bad that they usually play shows only in Europe; they say they like to perform in France. If I go to Europe for an exchange, you can definitely bet that I'm going to go hunt down these delicious looking boyzzzzzz. You know that I'm a sucker for long-haired men. HEHEHE. Find us in London-
Actually, I don't really listen to any other 80s Korean bands or music other than Dandelion (들국화). Composed of four members, vocal 전인권, bass 최성원, keyboard 허성욱, and guitar 조덕환, they debuted in 1985 and is still sort of a group. After a fight, they disbanded only a few years after their debut, but got back together for a tour in the late 90s.
I listen to their song March (행진) faithfully. It's one of the few songs I put on my Blackberry. Their music is slow and it shows how old it actually is; contrary to that, when we imitate the 80s sound these days, the beat is a lot faster and complex. Go through the related videos of this one for a tour of their songs and a variety of old Korean songs. I cannot guarantee that they will all be worthwhile....... LOL ! :) :)
